If you’re a child or adult under 65, you may be eligible for Medicaid via NJ FamilyCare.Visit the NJ FamilyCare websiteto make sure you meet all the requirements. (This information is available in Spanish.)
If you’re
- over 65 and/or disabled, or
- a person with disabilities between ages 16-64, who is working part or full time,
you might be eligible for Medicaid via NJ FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled (ABD) Programs. Read the ABD Programs brochure to make sure you meet all the requirements. (This information is available in Spanish.)

If you’re eligible, you can apply for Medicaid following the instructions below:
Online
The New Jersey Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services has implemented new changes to its online portal to apply for all Medicaid programs. Follow these instructions:
Step 1.Prepare your Documents
Have the following documents ready:
- resources (bank account, annuity, trust statements)
- income (paycheck, social security, child support, alimony)
- identification (driver's license, birth certificate, passport)
Be prepared to provide an email address at the time of application. It is estimated that the application can be completed in 10 minutes.
Step 2.Apply Online
Visit theNJ Family Care websiteto apply. You can apply and upload required the documents via smartphone, tablet or PC.
Step 3.Check your Application Status
You can check on the status of your Medicaid application online at the NJ Family Care website, as well as receive electronic notifications. It can take between 45 and 90 days for your application to be processed.
Step 4.Follow-Up
In about 7-10 business days, you will receive a letter in the mail from our office. This letter will let you know who your case worker is.
