I have a few more pics of the interior via email and it looks very clean for how old the car is. Owner is an older fellow who is retiring so he doesn't need it anymore. Entirely stock, so no worries about someone installing something poorly, clean slate for me to start.

So I am pretty sure this is quite a good price for North Carolina. Anything I should be extra cautious about / watch out for? Should I try to haggle him down any or just take the $2500?

This would be my first Miata, been waiting for the right one to show up for a while and I'm pretty excited to take the plunge (unless someone gets there before me tomorrow D=)

Take along the used Miata checklist you can find here on the forum. Assuming it is clean, rust free, not leaking anything and the AC works...then $2500 is a good price. However, if the timing belt has never been changed then it is waay overdue. Factor that into the price and see if he'll come down a few hundred.

Will do. Talked to the guy on the phone and I'm pretty sure he said the timing belt was changed recently and the tires are quite new. Will of course verify both when i go to see it. He also mentioned that he only used synthetic oil, which is a plus, although he is the 3rd owner so no knowing what the others have done!

Better hurry--this one will disappear fast.

Owner is an older fellow who is retiring so he doesn't need it anymore. When I retire, I think I will NEED an NA even more than I do now.:jump:
Back on topic: it is red. If that color does anything for you, I would not waste time haggling. Get this before someone else on this forum takes it.

Most other $2500 Miatas are going to be in pretty poor shape. I'd definitely pull the trigger on that one if it checks out. I'd hurry too.

I do really like the darker blues and such, but my last car was gray and my current daily is dark gray. It will be nice to have some color in my life =D

Someone is going to look at it first this afternoon =/ but if they don't buy it, I'm going to show up check in hand.

FYI- Cash gets the senses going better than a check ;-)

Hope you can get this one. There isn't much info in the ad, but it appears to be a real good buy!

Unfortunately, this is another of those "don't post about it, buy it" deals. I suspect that whoever shows up first will be the proud new owner at $2500.

Well, someone got it - the ad's gone. Was it a m.netter?

Missed out on it =(. Someone had called him before me and saw it this afternoon and picked it up. Should have told him yesterday that I could come over right then and look at it, not decisive enough

Newbies- Do not post direct links on M.net to ads for cars you are truly interested in buying. Ever.

All's fair in love, war, and stealing a car from an uniformed seller. This is a national forum and speaking frankly, the folks here are not your friends, especially when it comes to a steal deal on a car and doubly especially when you come here asking with all of five posts to your credit.

Jeez Louise this thread should be made a sticky and newbies should be forced to memorize it prior to posting.

To the OP- good luck and happy hunting. Consider this a lesson learned.

Copy and paste the ad text, upload some pictures if you want input but may want to buy it.
If you post the whole ad, you are INVITING us all to see it, comment on it, and perhaps buy it. All's fair in love, war, and stealing a car from an uniformed seller.I do not consider it wrong for me or anyone else to go after a car that we learn about here. UNLESS you include some plea in the text that says "Please don't buy this, I just want input". That will not absolutely prevent anyone from buying it, but it would make the action seem "less than fair".

I know that... I posted this after I called the guy selling it and he told me then that there was someone coming to look at it mid day the next day and I would be second on the list. What I should have done was offer to come over right then and bring a money order, but it was right after a **** day of work, 40 mins away, and I didn't have a 2nd driver till the next day. No big deal, I can wait till something else comes up and it would be more financially responsible for me to wait till next month to really buy anyway (Just worse for my car driving enjoyment =/)

No, don't bring a money order, if you have the cash to get a money order just bring $100 bills. I for one would be hesitant to take one and give my car over at the same time. Really you should have a budget in mind on the max you would spend if any car was the right car. Go get that cash now so you are ready to pounce anytime day or night.

Don't beat yourself up. Just be patient and you'll find a good car.

I just got an '02 in Durham, and while shopping around for a Miata I looked at several of the 99-02 Miatas that are on the Raleigh CL right now if you need any info on any of them...
