🔌⚡💨 The world’s longest land and subsea link has been energised National Grid Plc announced on Friday. The 1,400-MW Viking Link electricity interconnectorbetween Denmark and the UK, stretches 475 miles (764 km) between the Bicker Fen substation in Lincolnshire and another one in Revsing, Denmark. The link will enable the transmission of power for up to 2.5 million British homes through UK, Dutch, German and Danish waters.Viking Link’s commercial operations are estimated to bring over GBP 500 million in savings to UK consumers in the first 10 years due to the cheaper imported power from Denmark, National Grid estimates. The link is the British electricity gas company’s sixth interconnector. The high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) Viking Link will initially operate at 800 MW and will reach 1.4 GW over the current year. Its construction was initiated in 2019.https://lnkd.in/eqJHe2XN#renewableenergy #windpower #interconnection #odinglobal

Despite numerous commercial and technical challenges, there is progress on the journey to #netzero. The UK, once home to the first coal-fired power station, is set to be the first G7 country to cease using coal for electricity. Coal supplied 80% of the UK's electricity in 1990 but only 1% last year. The UK's clean energy efforts have advanced further with a record 131 clean energy projects winning government subsidy contracts this year, totalling 9.6 gigawatts.

In a noteworthy move towards sustainable energy development, the IRAQI MINISTRY OF ELECTRICTY has announced a consequential agreement with Siemens Energy. This collaboration aims to transform flared gas, a byproduct of oil extraction, into a valuable electrical power generation resource within six months. Under the agreement signed in Berlin by Ziyad Ali Fadel, the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, and officials from Siemens Energy, the project aims to utilize 120 million cubic feet of flared gas initially, with plans to double this capacity within a year. This initiative addresses the wasteful practice of gas flaring and significantly contributes to Iraq’s electrical grid by fueling a new 2000-megawatt power plant.Fadel emphasized that this project is a testament to the Iraqi government’s commitment to curbing gas flaring and aligns with the global climate change mitigation efforts under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This agreement marks a significant milestone in Iraq’s sustainable energy production and environmental stewardship journey. By harnessing technology and international partnerships, Iraq sets a precedent for other oil-producing nations to manage flared gas effectively and responsibly.#siemensenergy
