Italy have won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1976, beating Australia 2-0 in the final.

Jannik Sinner sealed the victory, beating Alex de Minaur in straight sets to conclude the Davis Cup Finals 2023 in Malaga's Martin Carpena Arena on Sunday (26 November).

It was a fitting end to the tournament with Sinner avenging his defeat to Novak Djokovic in last Sunday's ATP Tour Finals championship match to keep his nation alive in Saturday's semi-final against Serbia.

He then teamed up with Lorenzo Sonego to beat Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic and send Italy through 2-1.

The world number four had done the same in the quarter-finals against the Netherlands, prevailing in a must-win singles rubber before pairing up successfully with Sonego.

Known as the 'World Cup of Tennis', from 21-26 November, the eight men's tennis teams that successfully battled through the group stages were whittled down to the two with Italy getting the better of 2022 runners-up Australia.

Defending champions Canada went out to Finland in the quarter-finals with the Finns then losing to Australia on Friday.

Each tie features two singles matches and a doubles match decider if needed. Countries' No.1 players will match up against each other and so on.
