Hi all, I wondered if maybe I was being a bit too pedantic by having a polite notices on my sweetie table:

In addition to the one saying "sweetie table closed (for now)" with a sheer cover over it, so its left until the evening guests arrive, I was thinking of putting one that says something along the lines of "grab a bag and take a few, so others can enjoy some too" to encourage people not to take too many at once.

Is it too much to put this on - will people take offence? It's just I think there will be a few individuals who will be rather greedy and polish off a load of sweets all to themselves or take them 'for later', leaving none for anyone else. I think I have provided a good selection of sweets, and plenty of each considering the number of guests, but I don't want it to be trashed before the evening guests arrive, and day guests not eating their meal because they're full of sweets.

    Honest opinions appreciated, thanks!

If you have it closed for the evening... do you really need the rhyme sign to stop day guests from eating them before the evening guests arrive and before their meal?

Although saying that I don't think the sign is a bad idea, I don't think it will offend people. The only thing I will say is you can't guarantee the sign will stop people taking loads.

We're having a sweet cart too and it should feed 80 people, but we're having 100 plus to the reception, I can't decide whether we should bring extra's to top it up, or whether the fact that we have cake for 200 plus should be enough :/

  2. Good idea KelBel, but there isn't anywhere to put it other than out in view.
I'll just have to hope that the sign will be seen by some and be prepared to tell people off. I personally think that if its got a sign saying its closed, its rude to ignore it, but not everyone will share that view.

I agree Amy, especially if it is covered... maybe tell your bridesmaids and ushers to keep an eye on it and be prepared to tell anyone off as well.

That's a good note for us to make actually, I'll make sure they're table is near the candy cart

Yes do the sign but I think anyone who would "go mad" will do so ..sign or no sign , I think your far better to have the table either set up between day or evening or have it screened off / covered till the evening so you day guests have no access

Our room was divided into a day room and evening room, and we had the sweet table in the evening room so everyone saw it when we went in after the meal. I was actively encouraging people to take extra bags to take home with them and we still had loads of sweets left at the end of the night. I don't think anyone would take so many sweets that they run out. I wouldn't do the sign personally x

I don't think anyone will be raiding ours. A friend of ine made the mistake of having chocolate bars too, and people were just taking those. I think sweets are different (more fiddly, and less pocketable)

My main concern for ours is the sweetie muncher will be the groom so NONE of our guests will get any haha

i'm also worrying about this, not quite sure what to do, i think someone previously has suggested only buying small bags and then 1 bag per person. Then perhaps hold some sweets back so they can be topped up later

I think if you have the sign, whether or not SOME people ignore it, you'll still have LESS people go mad in respect of the sign?

Hmm I don't know how I feel about this.

I kind of feel a sign isn't really necessary, as most people will hopefully use their common sense anyway, and those who don't are probably not likely to take notice of the sign anyway. It's kind of like having a sign at the buffet or on your cake: both those things are also limited, but you will always get one or two who are just greedy and take more than their fair share. And usually, that will be balanced out by the people who aren't greedy.

So yeah, I don't know if I would; it might not make any difference to the greedy people, but might make other more respectful people take even less, if that makes sense.

I would however try to find some way of hiding it/covering it until the evening, even if that's throwing a sheet over it with a few 'Do not touch' signs.

We went to an evening do with a sweet table, told my daughter not to take the mick and she still came back with the bag overflowing...... Next time she will be supervised as I couldn't very well put them all back, she got told off for being greedy but I'm not sure people will take any notice of a sign, if they are just gunna go be greedy ar$es, especially if you're dumb like me and let your kid go up unsupervised :/

Unfortunately it depends on the individuals, I work in a hotel which has weddings most weekends, even when there's been sweet tables/carts with white linen tablecloths over it people have still pulled them down or moved it to the side to have it & then it's been up to us (the staff) to tell them it's for later, & generally we get an earful. But then there's others where it's been on display all day & hasn't been touched, I think if you put the cover & closed for now sign then hopefully it will get taken notice of, especially if its in a bar area or somewhere that's just being passed through really until the evening x
