The EX Series has been fine-tuned to achieve a well-balanced sound quality with smooth extension at both the high and low ends of the frequency spectrum.

The EX-P7 preamp features a true Class-A bias, as well as fully discrete input and output stages, which are the cornerstone of its design.

This results in a rich, detailed, and high-resolution sound that is sure to impress even the most discerning audiophiles. Furthermore, the preamp boasts a silky-smooth volume control, thanks to its discrete R2R volume control. This type of volume control is renowned for its precise and accurate adjustments, which are made possible through the use of precision-matched resistors.

RESISTOR LADDER VOLUME CONTROL

Unlike most preamps that use a potentiometer for volume control, the EX-P7 employs an advanced microprocessor-controlled, relay-based R2R steps attenuator.

This state-of-the-art volume control system features an ultra-precise fine linear volume control, which allows you to make fine adjustments to the volume level, even when listening late at night.

The use of this advanced technology ensures accurate, stable, and reliable volume control, without introducing any distortion or noise into the audio signal.

QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OVER COST

The primary objective behind the analog volume control design of the EX-P7 preamp was to deliver a low noise, low distortion, detailed, and uncolored sound reproduction. This goal has been successfully achieved through the use of a relay-controlled attenuator, which employs multiple relays and resistors to attenuate the volume. Although the switching of the relays, at certain steps, may result in a low audible pop/click sound, this is completely normal and does not pose any harm to the amplifier or loudspeakers.

To attain the highest level of transparency and sound quality, the KINKI STUDIO EX-P7 incorporates a highly acclaimed precision multistep relay-controlled attenuator, coupled with precision hand-matched resistors that have long endurance.

This combination ensures that the design goal of reproducing the most accurate and transparent sound quality has been met, delivering a listening experience that is sure to please even the most discerning audiophiles.

QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OVER COST

The EX-P7 preamp incorporates an extremely high-cost 0.2µm gold-plated printed circuit board (PCB), which is indicative of the designer's in-depth understanding of the limitations posed by general circuit boards' fine contact area.

In order to overcome this challenge, the designer has taken several measures, such as increasing the soldered area at each solder joint and incorporating as much shielding as possible, to ensure optimal performance.

Moreover, to prevent any interference between the Left and Right channel power supplies, the EX-P7 is equipped with two AMPLIMO transformers that are made in the UK, one for each channel. This design choice ensures that the power supply for each channel remains separate, thereby improving the channel separation.

Additionally, the EX-P7 is designed with a dual-mono configuration, housed within a single chassis, to provide an even more superior listening experience.

CRAFTED TO PERFECTION

The two AMPLIMO transformers, which are made in the UK, are installed within a CNC-machined aluminum enclosure, and the entire chassis of the EX-P7 preamp is constructed from 8-10mm thick anodized aluminum block.

This design ensures the elimination of unwanted electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) that could be induced from the surrounding equipment. As a result, the EX-P7 preamp provides superior sound quality, with greater clarity, precision, and detail.

Kinki Studio's design philosophy was focused on achieving both neutrality and musicality. The goal was to produce a sound signature that was rich in tonal quality, provided vivid sound imaging, details, high resolution, and dynamic range.

This was achieved through the careful selection of high-quality components, thoughtful design, and meticulous tuning. The resulting sound signature is unique to KINKI STUDIO's gear and represents the pinnacle of their engineering prowess.

The Universal Integrated Amp?

Today's Kinki should uncramp your finger and pull that trigger. The EX for 'extreme' in the name isn't idle puffery. It's well deserved. If enough people catch on, this amp will become a classic. For now, it could already be your classic. Classy all around!

FAQs

How much is the ex M1+? ›

The EX-M1+ costs $2,898 dollars and is available directly from Kinki Studios and the 'non-plus' model is about $500 less. The M1+ is a dual mono design integrated amplifier, with 215 watts of power per channel into 8 ohms and 290 into 4 ohms. It is solid, feels exceptionally well put together and is very heavy at 25kg.

Do preamps enhance sound quality? ›

They help boost the level of your mixer's signal to one with enough power to come through the PA speakers as punchy, loud, and clear as you want it to. However, the main way in which we'll usually see outboard preamps used is in studio recording.

Do I need an amp if I have a preamp? ›

The amplifier provides power to your headphones or speakers, and the role of the preamplifier is to bring your signal to line level, provide volume/gain control, and serve as a master control for your system. You need both for your sound quality to be optimized.

Are preamps worth it? ›

An external preamp may improve your sound quality significantly, if you work with low output dynamic microphones, including ribbons. With high output condenser mics, an external preamp makes less of a difference.
