Kentucky formula changes | JPMA, Inc. (1)

WIC infants will transition to Similac Brand Infant formulas March 1, 2023.

  • Similac Advance, Total Comfort, Sensitive and Isomil soy will be available for WIC infants who are not fully breastfed.
  • Infants who have a medical need for another formula will again require medical documentation as of March 1, 2023.
  • KY WIC will continue to work with our retailers, distributors and Similac to ensure adequate supply of approved infant formula remains on Kentucky’s WIC authorized grocery shelves.
  • The Similac Manufacturer has indicated that production levels will be able to supply sufficient stock for the WIC market. The Michigan Plant reopened in July of 2022.
  • WIC participants will have access to the larger can sizes of Similac formulas through April 30, 2023.
  • Infants on specialty formulas may be issued larger can sizes through June 30, 2023.
  • As a cost saving measures, the United States Department of Agriculture requires State WIC Agencies to contract with a formula manufacturer to provide routine infant formula at a reduced cost to the Program. This allows the WIC program to serve more participants across the state.
